The Hand Surgeons of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of Tulane University’s School of Medicine are noted for compassionate and expert hand and upper extremity care with strong listening and communication skills. They receive referrals from physicians around the Gulf South. They see patients and operate at Tulane University Medical Center, Lakeside Hospital, and University Hospitals. Many of their surgical procedures are done as out-patient local anaesthesia in a minimally invasively manner. They perform cutting edge, state of the art surgical procedures expertly, such as:
· Total wrist resurfacing arthroplasty for arthritic wrist to retain motion and relieve pain 
 

 · Reconstruction of the arthritic basal joint of the thumb with ligament tenodesis and interposition

· Plate fixation of distal radius fractures from the palm side of the wrist to avoid a cast and provide early motion and function 
 
· Percutaneous arthroscopic minimally invasive cannulated compression screw fixation of wrist carpal scaphoid (navicular) fractures and non unions
  
· Minimally invasive carpal tunnel release 
 
· Anatomic fixation of elbow joint fractures into the joint and dislocations for early motion 
 
· Deformity correction of fingers contracted into the palm from Dupuytren’s contracture  
 
 
· Humerus fracture locked plate fixation
 
· Shoulder joint humeral head resurfacing for painful arthritis for early motion and function
 
· Total elbow replacement for destroyed, painful, arthritic elbow joint for early motion and function
  

Tulane Orthopaedic hand surgeons are highly experienced experts in complex cases of hand, wrist, and upper extremity trauma, fractures, tendon injuries, nerve injuries, nerve compression, arthritis, deformities, diseases, cerebral palsy, congenital anomalies, nerve injuries, brachial plexus injuries, and tendon lacerations. They do tendon transfers for nerve paralysis, total joint replacement arthroplasty of the fingers, thumb, wrist, elbow, and shoulder, and treat the finger deformities of Dupuytren's contracture, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. They do thumb, wrist, and elbow arthroscopy. They repair complex wrist carpal fractures and instability, endoscopic carpal tunnel release, and do micro vascular reconstruction.
